The history of the castle, founded before 1344 by the Lords of Vchynice and abandoned before 1530, was not very turbulent.
However, the small castle on a long promontory above the romantic Oparen valley was not designed as a military fortress. Today, however, its easily accessible ruins, consisting of a massive cloaked wall, a small courtyard and semi-sunken cellars, are a popular tourist destination.
More information about Oparno Castle can be found in the Golden Trail of the Castle Lands section.
