The gateway to Bohemia is the canyon-like Elbe valley through which the river enters the Bohemian Central Highlands.
It can be found about 3 km downstream of Litoměřice. The banks are lined with rocky slopes in a stretch about 4 km long. The Elbe River has created an unusual landscape here with a deep incision of the river valley into the Bohemian Central Highlands. On the right bank of the Elbe you can enjoy views from the hills of Kalvárie (245 m above sea level), Hrádek (269 m above sea level), Malá Vendula (239 m above sea level), and on the left bank from Dobrý Hill (311 m above sea level) and the Mlynářův kámen lookout. An unforgettable view of the Bohemian Gate is from the deck of a ship that departs regularly during the season. In the immediate vicinity of the Bohemian Gate there are large vineyards, where the so-called Žernosecká wine, one of the best in Bohemia, is grown.
