The locks were built between 1924 and 1936 and their goal was to ensure the navigability of the river.
The lock was one of the largest in the Czech Republic and one of the most modern in Europe. The monument is also known as Střekov dam. The locks include a hydroelectric power plant, two locks, a fish pass and a weir, with the help of which a level difference of 10 meters can be achieved. From the Elbe Trail under the Střekov Rock near Ústí nad Labem, you can cross to the other bank of Elbe and at the same time admire the technically perfect waterworks, which is an important construction on the waterway to Hamburg. A nice view of the locks also opens from the castle Střekov. The background is accessible during special events such as open days.
