The Elbe Canyon is a section of the valley of the river Elbe, which is located near the town of Děčín. It is the deepest sandstone canyon in Europe.
It is a respectable 300 m deep and is a popular destination for climbers from around the world. You can admire its monumental beauty from the river surface while on a boat, raft or a paddle-board, from the saddle of a bicycle (the Elbe Trail leads through the canyon) or from one of the many viewpoints. The most beautiful is undoubtedly the Belvedere at the Elbe slope, which is the oldest modified viewpoint of Bohemian Switzerland and offers a beautiful view into the depths of the canyon and the opposite rocks – the German table mountains Zirkelstein and Kaiserkrone. You can get to know the Elbe Canyon and its surrounding area (quiet in depth) thanks to the Elbe Canyon Nature Trail, which begins on Stoličná Mountain in Děčín and ends at the Belvedere viewpoint.
